Life on Wings: The Forgotten Life and Theology of Carrie Judd Montgomery by Jennifer A. Miskov
Do you want to learn how to carry the momentum of revivals forward, be inspired by a healing revivalist who opened one of the earliest healing homes on the west coast (20 years before John G. Lake’s healing rooms), or learn what it was like to be a woman in ministry 100 years ago?
Carrie Judd Montgomery (1858-1946) was one of the most influential people in the Divine Healing Movement and also greatly influenced early Pentecostalism. She acted as a catalyst to spread revival fires and passionately pursued the fullness of the Spirit throughout her life. She was also one of the earliest women itinerant preachers who traveled across the USA and paved the way for women in ministry.
Carrie’s healing account in 1879 and her early literature acted as a “Tipping Point” within American Evangelicalism to turn Christians from believing that it was good to suffer unto God, to them believing that God wanted to heal. Her healing homes were also among some of the earliest in the country coming over 20 years before John G. Lake’s healing rooms. These things in addition to her early contribution to the formation of the doctrine of healing in the atonement make Carrie one of the most influential people in the American Divine Healing movement. Carrie introduced many significant leaders to healing and the Pentecostal Spirit baptism who later built and expanded the movement in profound ways. Carrie’s friends William J. Seymour, Aimee Semple McPherson, Smith Wigglesworth and others stayed at her healing home on Oakland, California called The Home of Peace.
Carrie’s approach to the newer manifestations of the Spirit and her relentless pursuit of the “fullness of the Spirit” however that looked in her generation can similarly inform present day approaches to revival and inspire Christians from all traditions to dive into the fullness of the Spirit available today. The testimonies found here are sure to inspire faith and hunger in new levels.

“I just wanted to share that I’ve perused your Life on Wings and also listened to you deliver your paper at Anaheim Vineyard. Since reading/listening to your stuff I’ve been praying daily for a ‘Spirit Flood’ — and my life has been quite different. The main differences: a more open heart to people, more compassion, more patience with my kids and wife, and I think more anointing on my preaching.”
-Mark Pertuit, Vineyard Pastor
Taken from an interview with Heidi Baker about the legacy of Carrie Judd Montgomery:
“There’s so much more. I’m excited and I agree with Carrie Judd Montgomery! We are filled continually and we continually pour out. There is no need to ever be dry. He is a living water.”
-Heidi Baker, PhD, Founding Director of Iris Global
